When rocket parts fall from the sky in #Minnesota.
@planet4589 tentatively links it to the Zhuque-2E upper stage.
@stefano it's weird running into people who take "The Cathedral and the Bazaar" seriously
@mxchara it's an example we used to use 25 years ago.
"unprecedented" means "I don't know history"

Note that Caoilfhionn Gallagher KC - a top international human rights lawyer - also describes it as a government 'ban' of Rooney's books.
@GeofCox
Effectively it is, if only because the government can ban anything if the people they need to carry out the ban capitulate immediately or even in advance of being really pressured at all.
There's a poll going round the Fedi at the moment about whether you would be able to use an AED/defibrillator on a woman having a heart attack and a lot of people are commenting they'd let the trained person who brought it use it. In the UK at least you don't need to wait for ambulance staff to bring it, they're in lots of public locations like stations, shopping centres and churches. In an emergency if you're on the phone to the ambulance service they will tell you where the nearest one is, but if you want to familiarise yourself with the locations of nearby ones just to be prepared you can see them here: https://www.defibfinder.uk/

"Project Krakenheimer" has a nice ring to it.
Concept: A deslop distro that packages all the forks of projects that got slopped *under the original name* without permission. The slop jockeys' reactions would be priceless.
@SylviaFysica Re: “a kind of quasi-sensory relationship with their abstract object of study” and FYI: C.S. Peirce (1839-1914, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Sanders_Peirce) had a similar notion. He held that mathematicians work with “visual skeletons” (which would include, say, category-theory-type pictures but also “a system of equations written under one another so that their relations may be seen at a glance”). I'm exhausted, most of all, by talking to programmers who have an absolutely unshakeable ideological commitment to the idea that none of our tools could possibly hurt us, that programming is an easy job with no dangers, simply because it involves a lot of sitting down and thinking quietly, that any ill effects must be merely shaken off as a mindset problem. even people who can look at a tool and intellectually discuss its possible dangers will never take that information and simply stop using it

@RolloTreadway And if you call 999, call handlers will talk you through the whole process, from the code to access the defib, to how to use it and do CPR. They are made for anyone to use, and in fact are actually easier if you have never used one as you don’t second guess how to.
